POS comes in 2 pennies short
--10:28 am - By Michael Baron
Catalina Marketing (POS: news, msgs) is losing $8.94, or 26.3 percent, to $25, after the St. Petersburg, Fla., consumer goods marketing firm reported third-quarter earnings of $16.9 million, or 29 cents a share, up slightly from last year’s profit of $16.6 million, or 29 cents a share, but 2 cents below the average estimate of analysts polled by First Call. Revenue rose 11 percent in the latest three months to $108.8 million from $97.8 million in the same period a year earlier. Catalina expects a fourth-quarter profit of 23 to 25 cents a share on year-over-year revenue growth of 15 to 17 percent, below First Call's average estimate for a profit of 30 cents a share. Morgan Stanley cut its rating on the stock to "neutral" from "strong buy."
