Next year's QB position is wide open. Unfortunately the two QB's in our system are not going to be the starters next year IMO.
Grant Noel, who committed the same year as Michael Vick has had plenty of time to learn our system but he's not a mobile QB, nor does he have a strong enough arm to throw downfield like Bustle likes to do.
Jason Davis, who is redshirting this year, came in with much fanfare as the #1 QB in Tennessee his senior year of high school. He's got an arm and is mobile, but has underachieved in practice (from what I hear). I don't think he has a grasp of our system yet and may not factor into the QB situation in the future.
Will Hunt was the #1 rated QB in Arkansas this year and will be a true freshman next year. He's very mobile and would fit into our system well. Nebraska wanted him as their replacement for Crouch.
Bryan Randall was the #1 *player* in Virginia as a QB who committed about 2 weeks ago and will be a true freshman next year. He's in the mold of Michael Vick - very athletic and could play multiple positions. However, Beamer has told him he will be redshirted upon Randall's request. But since Vick left, that could change.
Michael Robinson is the #3 player in Virginia and it's between us and PSU for his services. He's gigantic and if he doesn't play QB, he could end up at linebacker.
Also, Eric Green , a true freshman this year who played cornerback will be looked at for QB next year, along with Richard Johnson, who is being redshirted this year and is a receiver.
So you have:
Grant Noel - doesn't fit our system Jason Davis - hasn't grasped/learned our system Will Hunt - true freshman next year Bryan Randall - true freshman next year; possible redshirt Michael Robinson - true freshman next year; hasn't committed yet Eric Green - cornerback Richard Johnson - receiver possible junior college player?
So the QB position is wide open. |
