Illinois Superconductor files $50 mln shelf offering
WASHINGTON, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Illinois Superconductor Corp. (OTC BB:ISCO.OB - news) filed a shelf registration on Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission for up to $50 million in common and preferred stock and warrants.

The Mt. Prospect, Ill.-based company plans to use the net proceeds for general corporate purposes, which may include capital contributions to units, it said in the filing.

Under a shelf registration, a company may sell securities from time to time in one or more separate offerings in amounts, at prices and on terms to be determined at the time of sale.

Illinois Superconductor was founded in 1989 by an affiliate of the University of Chicago to commercialize superconductor technologies initially developed by Argonne National Laboratory.

The company's shares ended trading at $2-1/16 on the Bulletin Board. The stock has been as high as $39 in the past 52 weeks.
