Hi Sepster,

A part reason for little response to Cupertino, could be that the 'Electric Utilities' subject has tom my knowledge not been made available on the main subject listing page by SI yet?

I'm not sure why they haven't modified all the new subjects they created recently yet but maybe they are working on it.

RE: <I would be interested in more of you observations about energy issues and tech.> Sepster

Do you have any specific questions re above request?.
If so reply back.

A few random observations:

Basically, I am of the opinion that tech was/is energy intensive. We have some serious energy issues in North America far more than the media has been suggesting IMO, so most techs will take a backseat to energy for a few years until we have sustainable energy production and electrical infrastructure to kick start another run at the next energy intensive tech boom at a more realistic pace.

Since we are likely moving into several year long energy boom primarily for natural gas which will affect food prices,(due to ammonia fertilizer shortages derived from natural gas produced ammonia, so then crop yields will be down from less fertilizer on crops) plastic prices (because ethane from NG is used to make everything made of plastic)

So any tech companies serving agriculture and plastics industry will be impacted accordingly.

Alternative Energy firm will likely have an easier time raising finacing once genereal public feels burden of a few years of outrageous energy prices at gas pumps, utility bills etc. Since most fuel cells are focusing clean burning hydrogen and Nat. Gas molecule is basically NH3 so then Alternative energy will long term be using the H in NH3 for fueling the fuel cells, ie: Global Thermoelectric.

Overall I think the very large techs like Nortel etc have seen this coming and will weather the energy issues quite well. Any tech company that serves the exploration or energy producers will thrive in this environment, however
IMO any techs or dotcoms that are not focused in a cost savings business model that actually work in serving an industry that will weather the energy crisis may be closing there doors for a few years.
