Two industry research organizations (Reported in SJ Mercury News this week) have predicted flat sales for the semi-equip group in 2001 and 2002. If this holds up, the stocks are cheap and I agree with the statement above. I would not be too aggressive in following the predictions. The fed moved aggressively because the slowdown has become serious and both expansions and contractions tend to feed on themselves and exacerbate the problem. I would wait for the quarterly reports and conference calls. They are not going to be easy to listen to, and it is not certain what level of prices adequately discounts the current business conditions.
