On the longer view, I believe the period from 1974-1982 was the recession between two Kondratieff Cycles. The previous depression was in 1929-1936 or so. Though the Second World War was a distorting factor.... or maybe just part of the larger scheme of things. The cycle was about 40+ years long which is a little shorter than previous ones. Quite likely the pace is picking up. So I figure we are now in the equivalent of 1955 or so in the previous cycle. That's pretty bullish, even if this cycle is shorter.
