Re: Thank God that GW had the sense to surround himself with fine individuals including Colin Powell, Condi Rice, and Rodney Paige. All of these people possess tremendous credentials and character, but especially with regard to minorities, we see individuals brought into positions of authority and prestige that will forever steal the wind from the pitiful rhetoric used by manipulative racists like Jackson and Sharpton.
And yes, I'm calling them racists because THAT'S ALL THEY SEE. They don't see the red blood that courses through the veins of every human being. They don't see the "green" of the battle uniforms worn by every member of the armed forces. All they see is the color of a person's skin and make the claim that this entitles them to special treatment to the disadvantage of every other struggling human being on this planet. [...]
Ron, were it not for Affirmative Action, you wouldn't have such "fine individuals [as Colin Powell]... brought into positions of authority and prestige...". After all, even Secr. of State Colin L. Powell does have detractors who belittle him as an "Affirmative Action General".... For that matter, Colin Powell has publicly stated that he supports Affirmative Action --as we'd put it in French, il ne crache pas dans la soupe!
To be sure, most human beings, whether white or black, female or male, from any background whatsoever, must struggle to carve out a living for him/herself --unless s/he was born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth. Yet, that struggle for life is not a level playing field. Now, is it fair to say that racist discriminations --at school or at the workplace-- are just odd discriminations among a plenty of others?
Re: "All they see is the color of a person's skin and make the claim that this entitles them to special treatment..." But you seem to overlook the fact that segregation was, in the first place, the special treatment minorities were entitled to because of their complexion! So, as you can see, "special treatment" was first implemented by Whites to the prejudice of Blacks and other minorities. It should be noted that the special treatment of racial segregation was (and still is, as far as the Bible belt is concerned) successfully enforced up to the 1960s. Except for its colored victims and a coupla Whites, nobody complained about it.... So, why all that fuss about Affirmative Action? All in all, it's just another "special treatment" that's gonna have a much shorter life span than segregation, anyway....
