I understand the FCC has imposed restrictions on the speed of data allowed by telephone lines, but no such restrictions have been imposed on the speed of cable data... this may also be part of the problem for standard telephone lines as well... I think the price will drop for digital cable modem service once it becomes more widely available and more widely used..... right now, I'm paying $19.00 per month for Roadrunner service and that's it... I don't need a phone line... before, I was paying about $19.00 a month to a phone company for a dedicated phone line and then an additional $19.95 for telephone modem hookup with Mindspring which was merged with Earthlink about a year ago..... I was thrilled the day I disconnected from Mindspring and also told the local phone company I didn't need their services anymore.....<g>
