I don't believe Ashcroft can separate "his religious beliefs" from "his job." There is suppose to be a separation of church and state. From the information that I've read, Ashcroft has never demonstrated that he could do it. One of the reasons cited for Ashcroft's defeat of Ronnie White for Federal Judge was that White was against Ashcroft's anit-abortion laws in Missouri.
