Charley,

A good question, and I wish I had a good answer. "You can't go home", is the best I can do.

People are going to find the path of least resistance. It is all about information, and how much more we have than 50 years ago. Information is good, but its like that damn apple.

To borrow a recent Neocon thought, people will accept it until it reaches a breaking point with enough people. Of course we are really referring to specific issues, but after a while some common moral code will arise.

Here is a crude example, but telling. I have thought how different my life experience might have been had I been around before the pill. Vastly different world then, but I wasn't there so maybe it wasn't so different.

I guess the reason why this response is so lame is that I don't know what the answer should be, let alone what it could be.

The largest single theme of the Republican platform that attracted me, is that of personal responsibility. Freedom with responsibility for self is the only workable solution I know. Engineering social change or attempt to curtail another's behavior are dangerous things, and most likely will fail.

I don't know. What do you think?

HAGO
