MARKET TALK-SG-KL: PCCW In Talks To Sell M1 Stake

1700 [Dow Jones] SINGAPORE: Pacific Century CyberWorks Deputy Chairman Francis Yuen quoted by Quamnet, HK Internet news service, as saying PCCW studying plan to sell its 15% stake in M1 and has held discussions with several buyers. Remarks in wake of report that Telstra, PCCW's JV partner, in talks to buy Cable & Wireless' 15% stake in M1. JV originally supposed to buy PCCW's M1 stake but now considered unlikely as JV has put further loans on hold because banks less than enthusiastic to finance further borrowings.(GEY)

1654 [Dow Jones] IMF's Koehler says IMF now expects U.S. 2001 growth at 2.5%, de facto downgrade from October's official forecast of 3.2% 2001 growth; but also cautions against excessive pessimism for world outlook, noting Asia slowdown not cause for gloom; forecasts Asia ex-Japan 2001 growth at 5.0%.(MXT)

1652 [Dow Jones] SINGAPORE STOCK CALL: Following Hewlett Packard's overnight profit warning, Fraser-AMMB downgrades HP supplier Omni Industries (O13) to sell from buy and lowers FY01 profit estimate by 24% to S$42.5 million and FY02 estimates by 31% to S$47.9 million. Sets new fair value at S$1.85/share, from S$4.15; shares now up 2.7% at S$2.64. Also lowers forecasts for Venture Manufacturing (V03) by 7% for FY01 and 11% for FY02, but keeps buy call on stock.(BXT)
