Stops: I've been trading the techs for a couple of years now and still find it difficult to lock in profits while at work with so much volatility in the market now.

I prefer to be long the market but find it very difficult to lock in larger profits when using stops. However if I don't use stops I see my profits sometimes go from a gain to a loss on any given trading day. I have tried using a trailing stop but usually get stopped out and sell way too early.

Just wanted to know if anyone reading this board has ideas on how to protect profits while at work in such a volatile market? I am presently long on BRCM, JDSU, SSTI and now faced with whether to place a stop before the open on Tuesday to protect profits. I know that some would say that profit is profit no matter how small but I would prefer to let my winners run and dump my losers with tight stops on the losing end but know first hand that this is difficult.

I enjoy the thread and hope I haven't taken up too much of your time.

Regards,
Fred
