And it is very true that blacks and whites perceive this issue differently.

I was in a conference room at the office when the verdict was announced. People had begun gathering in anticipation and turned on the TV. The group was slightly more than half black and the rest white. When the verdict was announced, there was a brief round of cheers from the blacks and stunned silence from the whites. We were all friends and it wasn't particularly uncomfortable, but the room sure cleared quickly.
