Network Appliance Filers Are First Network-Attached Storage Products
Included on the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 2001--Network Appliance (NASDAQ:NTAP - news), a leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, today announced that its NetApp® F700 series filers running Data ONTAP(TM) 6.0.1 or higher have been included on the Microsoft® Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) in the Storage/RAID System category. Network Appliance is the first vendor to offer network-attached
storage (NAS) products on the Microsoft HCL. For Network Appliance, this achievement opens up new market opportunities among Microsoft customers and demonstrates the company's prowess and expertise in storage for Microsoft environments.

The Microsoft HCL identifies products which have been designed and tested to receive the ``Designed for Windows'' logo. The logo signals to customers that the product meets Microsoft standards for compatibility with the Windows® family of Operating Systems. The NetApp F700 series filers have passed Microsoft testing to ensure that they are easy to use and reliable, and take advantage of the features of Windows NT® 4.0 and Windows 2000.

``This achievement demonstrates our commitment to delivering leading NAS products for Windows environments,'' said Sandy Lake, director of market development and partners at Network Appliance. ``We are pleased to be working with Microsoft, further enabling us to provide global enterprises with Microsoft Windows-compatible solutions for network-attached storage.''

The Microsoft HCL list can be accessed online at microsoft.com. The keywords ``Network Appliance'' or the ``Storage/RAID System'' category display NetApp products and certifications.
