e.Biscom SpA (Milan's Nuovo Mercato: EBI), which delivers broadband multimedia services to the home, has selected the Optibase Media Gateway solution for enabling on-demand entertainment, Interactive TV, Internet browsing and other enhanced video services. e.Biscom is currently laying a high capacity fiber network natively based on the Internet Protocol (IP) in order to reach more than 500 urban centers in Italy, a major percentage of which with more than 100,000 inhabitants.
The Optibase MGW 2000 is a multi-channel media gateway with an embedded operating system that is capable of encoding and transmitting 16 live and pre-recorded streams simultaneously, including up to six in real time, and delivering full-screen, full-motion, high quality video. "We plan on offering varied interactive services to our customers" says Ruggero Gramatica, Chief Information Officer of e.Biscom. "On-demand services and Interactive services require multiple concurrent streams of high quality video, in real-time.
