e.Biscom is not that small after all. Look at this piece out of the third paragraph below the quoted material:

"technology on a widely distributed fibre optic network gives the opportunity, for the first time in the world to have integrated transmission of voice, data, video and Internet services at a speed of 10 Mbit/s for each residential customer."

Innovation, state-of-the-art technology, multimedia solutions and interactive publishing content: these are some of the many activities being developed by e.Biscom, the company set up in November 1999 in Milan by Francesco Micheli and Silvio Scaglia. Leveraging the skills of a team of managers with successful careers in the fields of telecommunications, Internet and start-ups, e.Biscom`s businesses and strategies have from the start been developed with the active participation of the founding partners-managers.

The company has been quoted since 30th March of this year on the Milan Stock Exchange "Nuovo Mercato" after an IPO that raised more than €1.6 billion. In recent months, e.Biscom has added to the original team a further nucleus of top managers who have joined the various activities during their start-up phase, and today operate on the marketplace with 7 distinct companies of which 5 are direct subsidiaries: FastWeb (56.5%), HanseNet (80%), B2Biscom (99.7%), e.BisMedia (100%), e.Voci (51.4%) and 2 affiliates: Metroweb (33%) and Smart City (50% through Innovation Unity). Overall, e.Biscom has hired more than 800 people to date.

With FastWeb, e.Biscom has given Italy a technological first that is destined to revolutionise the telecommunication sector: the advanced use of IP (Internet Protocol) technology on a widely distributed fibre optic network gives the opportunity, for the first time in the world to have integrated transmission of voice, data, video and Internet services at a speed of 10 Mbit/s for each residential customer. FastWeb is already operating in Milan and as of 30 September has signed 180 business contracts and more than 1.200 contracts with residential customers. FastWeb recently announced that it will now extend its service to the whole of Italy, requiring an investment of €6 billion over a 10 year period.

HanseNet (80% e.Biscom - 20% HEW) is one of the leading regional carriers in Germany and operates a fibre optic metropolitan network of over 600 kilometres. The company offers telecommunication services, data connections and Internet services in Hamburg and the surrounding region. It was e.Biscom`s first European acquisition.
