Applications to hi voltage electrical power transmission lines surveillance(esp imp in light of Californie dereg power fiasco to keep yer transmission lines up to sqwack, lol), oil & gas lines surveillance for leaks, shoreline mapping, naval defense establishment mapping, forestry insect onslaughts (spray only where insects ready to munch up da forest), fibre optic cable corridor mapping (right of ways etc).
For transmission lines, helicopter flies at 70 mph or so, computer controls data acquisition to hi spd storage. Then does pattern recognition for faults such as cracked insulators(corona discharge), faulty tower structures, right of way encroachment, etc, etc. Each other application has its own pattern recognition system.
