QUALCOMM releases 3G cdma2000 1x integrated circuit
and system software

JAN 15, 2001, M2 Communications - QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies, a division of
California-based QUALCOMM Inc, has begun to ship its MSM5105 Mobile Station Modem
integrated circuit and system software.

Designed for use in 3G cdma2000 1x handsets and wireless devices, the new MSM and radio
frequency system is said to offer network operators up to two times the voice capacity for 3G
cdma2000 1x networks compared to IS-95A/B systems.

Other features include support for up to 153Kb/s in the forward link, enabling 3G 1x handsets
incorporating an interface to a PC to provide such applications as video streaming, file transfers, web
browsing and voice recognition.

Samples of MSM5105 are now available. The first consumer products incorporating the system are
expected to be released in the middle of the year.
