You know, it's funny, bland ...

...how much more meaningful one's career becomes when it's necessary to continue working. <g>

It's all in our own perceptions -- which can become so distorted with tantalizing dreams of instant, great wealth.

I'm like you in the respect that I've always gained great personal satisfaction from my career.

At certain points throughout 2000, seemingly on worst-Naz-hit days/weeks, my income was 'endangered' by both fluctuations in the market affecting main client as well as internal changes i.e. retirements of key contacts, etc.

I'm self-employed, so that's a big difference between your and my real-life career situations, evidently.

As it happens -- as it has happened the entire 14 years of my self-employment -- things that looked incredibly grim three months ago have more than turned around for me in the 2001 'budget' year.

Not only did I not lose my bread-and-butter biz with this client, but when push came to shove, as we Southerners say so tritely (BTW: you're in TX yourself, ain't you? And likely in bank biz ... <g>) ...my clients not only saved my project, but expanded it. And offered yet another brand-new door of opportunity in a separate, similar project.

Ongoing, both of these projects. Offering me more income, obviously.

There comes a time to minimize obsession with one's net worth via market, seems to me, when there are better ways to make money ... by working for it, as distasteful <g> as so many find it...

We do what we have to do ... and learn from it ... eh?
