Juniper Networks Accelerates China's First Optical Internet With ECI Telecom in the Guangdong Province
Juniper Networks and ECI Telecom jointly deploy IP-Over-Optics Solution
PETAH TIKVA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 2001-- Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR - news), and the Optical Networks division of ECI Telecom Ltd. (NASDAQ:ECIL - news) recently launched as Lightscape Networks, announced today that they have jointly installed and tested China's first Optical Internet Protocol network using Juniper Networks Internet backbone routers and ECI Telecom's flexible DWDM systems (LumiNet(TM) ) for Guangdong PTA, one of the country's leading operators. This network build-out will help accelerate Internet growth in the Guangdong Province which is investing over US$400 million in Internet networking during the next five years.
The network, which includes LumiNet(TM) - Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers, began carrying commercial traffic earlier this year in Guangdong, one of China's most prosperous provinces with 75 million inhabitants. The network includes Juniper Networks routers connected by Gigabit Ethernet.
``ECI Telecom has been deploying SDH and optical solutions for backbone and metropolitan networks throughout China for over a decade. Providing China's first IP-Over-Optical Ring using Juniper Networks routers, presents us with an excellent opportunity to further deploy our IP-Over-Optics solution, since Guangdong PTA has plans to increase the network to cover the entire province,'' said Eran Dariel, ECI Telecom's Corporate Vice President and General Manager for Optical Networks.
ECI Telecom's IP-Over-Optics solution integrates Juniper Networks M-series routers into its multi-bit rate transponder with tuneable Laser to uniquely support all types of traffic rates including Gigabit Ethernet, OC48/STM-16 (2.5 Gbit/s), OC12/STM-4 (622Mbit/s) and OC3/STM-1 (155 Mbit/s) over the same transponder card.
``ECI Telecom's Optical Network solutions provide this range of transmission speeds in order to eliminate our customers' reliance on multiple transponders to manage different bit rates and services,'' said Ido Gur, Product Marketing Director, Optical Networks at ECI Telecom.
``In turn, this minimizes their maintenance and service costs. In addition, our customers can react faster and more flexibly to their customers' varying demands for speeds and service. The system supports IP, ATM, and SDH/SONET at any bit rate,'' continued Gur.
``ECI Telecom is building an impressive network in China and has displayed a real understanding of what customers need and expect from service providers,'' said Wayne Merrick, Juniper Networks Asia Pacific regional sales director. ``We are looking forward to working together with ECI Telecom to offer customers in China for our best in class, scalable, secure and reliable IP infrastructure solutions.'' |
