Gary, <I believe he made that statement under the assumption that P4 will be sold at the price of the current top line PIII which means there will be no gain in selling price but the cost increases.>

OK, but let's say the market won't buy more than X number of processors per quarter, no matter whether it's P3 or P4. If Intel can make significantly more than X number of P3's, the extra P3's will just go to waste, and gross margin suffers anyway.

Let me repeat that: Gross margin suffers anyway. Better for Intel to use the extra capacity and move the market to P4, than to waste that capacity by tossing out unsold (or underperforming) P3's. It's a balancing act that Intel plays every single day, and it's a balancing act that highly visible semiconductor analysts like Joe Osha should know better than I do.

Unfortunately, Osha either proved that he doesn't know, or he does indeed know but needs to tell a false story in order to continue wagging the dog.
