I don't think I use this anonymity irresponsibly and I value it.

I recognize the risk of openness and I'm wary. But I also recognize how anonymity facilitates irresponsibility.

In the 3D world I still find myself acting out every once in a while in the anonymity of, say, a supermarket when someone blocks the aisle with their cart and then fusses at me when I move it out of the way. (I'm amazed at how often that happens and how exercised people can get if you touch their cart.) I've taught myself to say "Oh, I'm sorry. Your cart must have rolled into the aisle and I couldn't get through. I was just getting it out of the way." That always de-charges the situation. But I used to lash back when something like that took me by surprise and I'm not yet completely cured.

I find that posting without anonymity is a useful "character-building" exercise. I think that I would post responsibly without it, but I'm not certain. Maybe once I achieve sainthood <gggg> I'll switch to a cool handle.
