Joe - Re: "That's strange. I thought it was one of the selling points of LCD monitors - less heat, less power consumption." It is less power. However, behind the LCD display is a row of illuminating bulbs - for BRIGHTNESS. The heat from these bulbs would destroy the LCD materials over time if not properly "exhausted" via the fan. Paul
