I have been having trouble with my daughter singing Battle Hymn of the Republic at her public school. What do you think.

Hi, YYB. I think it depends on the context. I'm uncomfortable with the words of that song, too, although I recall enjoying singing it as a kid in school. I still remember most of the words.

I can rationalize it as a folk song or old patriotic song if it's being sung in that context. I remember enjoying Shenandoah, too. I don't think I'd go to the mat over this song as long as it isn't being sung in a patently religious context.
