I think that one of the more ironic aspects of nuclear energy is the fact that it produces no greenhouse gasses. If you believe that greenhouse gasses like carbon dioxide are a threat to the environment nuclear power is the way to go. Unfortunately, all the brainwashed tree-huggers who grew up in the 60's, 70's, and 80's will never accept this fact.

Another issue with nukes is disposal of radioactive waste. Once the government gets Yucca Mountain going we should have a geologically safe place to store the waste. Certainly it will be much safer then where most of the waste is currently stored: on the premises of most of today's operating nuclear plants.
