I will add to the other answer that any wood other then pine or firs are good IMO. I also like them green but once dry just soak them in a pail of water. Perhaps it is because there are so many oak in this area but I actually like them. Just need to try many and keep the ones you like I guess. I prefer oak or mesquite on birds, hickory on beef and pork and apple on anything.
