Yes many times in the English language the letters you see do not sound as you might expect. But in any language even when folk agree on the sound, the meaning can be to folks many different minds eye images in many different minds. All languages are slippery, expescially when someone tries to communicate a complicated issue. So when I read I try to go to simplest and most direct interpretation and then see if the words convey a rule then what is the generalization of the rule. If the generalization of the rules leads to silly consequences then most likely what was said was silly.
