They have a reduction in staff right before a major sale that is generating more orders than they probably have ever had at one time.

I bet there will be some angry customers before this over. I just wonder how "real time" their inventory system is and how many of these orders will get the infamous out of stock email. One person is claiming that a rep told her that the reduction in staff has led to the site not being updated and some of the stuff was sold out for a long time before being pulled - even before the sale.

I have 7 orders so far and only 1 item has been shipped and that was from an order I placed late last night. There were many items in that order and they only shipped one item.

They have limited the Jamp3 to one per order and they keep bringing it in and out of stock today. I guess that is the attraction for the day.

The Babycenter will price match and their shipping is more reasonable so that is an alternative. It might insure that a person gets their order instead of the out of stock email.

Speaking of returns, here is an excerpt from a Staples ad:

"With Office Depot closing many of its doors, you need a reliable office supply store that will keep your
business running at full speed. Heres how Staples can help:"

"RETURNS: Staples will gladly accept the return of a product purchased at Office Depot when you present both
the product in its original packaging and the purchase receipt dated prior to 1/16/01. We will give you Staples
Cash Card for the refund amount that can be used toward any Staples retail store purchase. Sorry, computers,
special orders and opened software are excluded from this offer. Return offer available through 2/15/01."

"MONEY CARDS, MERCHANDISE CREDITS: If you have an Office Depot Money Card or Merchandise Credit,
we will gladly transfer the value onto a Staples Cash Card. For use in retail store only. Transfer offer available
through 2/15/01."

If you watch OD, you can find some great deals. I got a 299.99 motorola cellular phone that has a browser, etc for less than 60.00. Add the coupon that is out there and a 50.00 rebate and you get a free phone if you can catch them in stock! I just can't figure out why Staples is willing to take merchandise credit cards from Office Depot. They must have worked out some kind of deal.
