G.,

Capex was $6B for 2001. It's a 25% increase announced tonight.

If you're looking at Y over Y, you're correct to point out that 6.7B was the number for 2000, but that number included Capital purchases from acquired companies/fabs and wasn't all new equipment / bldgs.

Baird,

Andy Bryant has publicly stated INTC's intent, not only during the conference call, but also on CNBC in their 6:30 - 7:00PM segment. INTC probably isn't looking for another lawsuit, so I wouldn't expect its officers to mislead the public.

Andy clearly advised that they will continue to invest in both R&D as well as in 0.13µ and 300mm technology. He also explicitly stated that even if there is a recession; and even if it lasts longer than currently expected, INTC intends to be well positioned whenever the economy picks up again.

IMO, INTC's action will force the other chipmakers to make similar investments or choose to go out of business.

Ian.
