There is no way I would want to do the "system restore" and will have to find some way to work around my lack of a WinME CD or find a pirate. I would pay Bill something to get a CD that I would have bought with the box. Wonder if I can get a CD from MSFT.
Your last paragraph is very interesting. Are you saying that I could go to windows\options\cabs and click on the startup file? I went there and read the readme file but it seemed to be giving advice about installing ME over Win95-98
Thanks for your interest in my plight. I still believe it is a software issue but am unable to fix it.
