Lets not get paranoid about the Feds just yet. Ralph might just have his hands full with domestic matters rather than the boogeyman in Ottawa. His government has a terrible record in Alberta for screwing up healthcare, the education system and the utility system. Power rates are so high here that there is a business in Lethbridge that has to operate at night only because of power costs. They have a guy that sits in front of a computer and watches the power price till it hits a max level and then they tell their people to go home. This in the province known as the land of plenty.

He and his government are about to be called to task for many years of mismanagement. They have truly become fat cats, and deserve a good kick in the you know what. I dont think he will do nearly as well in the next election. The best thing that could happen to Ralph is if Cretien started some holy war on the west, and polarized opinion in his favor.

Ralph is the BOZO who instigated deregulation of our electric industry and brought it into being in the Winter. You know - winter - when usage is the highest. At the same time 20% of our power generating capacity was down for maintenance that had been scheduled for at least a year in advance. My bill has gone from $115 last December to $180.00 and that that includes a $20.00 cover your butt payoff to keep us happy? Not to mention my gas bill that has gone from $104 to $225.00 with 5% less usage of gas.

There are a lot of very powerful people that he has pi$$ed off over the last while. The major utilities have been worked over as deregulation was brought about - "come and bid on an open contract and then let us put it to you by capping what you can charge even though your costs are going through the roof". The city of Calgary utility is expected to have a $70 million dollar shortfall as a result of his antics. Our situation here is perhaps even worse than in California - its just that Alberta isnt as far along in the process. It is bad now, and its going to get a lot worse.

The ONLY thing that has saved this guys butt has been the incredible surge in oil and gas revenue that laid more money at his feet than any government has ever seen on a per capita basis in the western world. And he and his buddies had nothing to do with paying off the deficit. They have never cut total spending the whole time they have been in government. They have had a revenue stream that has just gotten bigger every year. It made a star out of Stockwell Day who certainly isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Ontario voters were correct to reject him - he is totally unproven - just as the Conservative government under Ralph is unproven in a stress situation - they are screwing up big time here - people are just beginning to notice.

Just as Cretien called an election to assure himself of another term, the election here will be called soon to get Ralph back in before things get too crazy and the people throw him out. The only reason for the feds to make a Carbon tax would be a pure and simple money grab as they did almost 20 years ago with the Liberals and their National energy policy. If they are smart they will wait a bit longer and maybe Ralph will get turfed. Then watch for the Feds to bring in a carbon tax or a revenue grab as a way to prop up sagging revenues as the economy has a slowdown and the Feds revenue stream starts to dry up.

Just some comments from a born and raised Albertan that has never voted ANYTHING but conservative in 27 years of voting.
