Could there be a role for Nokia in the buildout of Mobilcom's network after all?

Mobilcom Eyes/3G Network -2: One Additional Supplier
Dow Jones Newswires

FRANKFURT -- German mobile phone company Mobilcom AG (G.MBC) said Tuesday it's eyeing Siemens AG (G.SIE), Nokia Corp. (NOK) or Alcatel S.A. (ALA), to help build its third-generation mobile phone communications network.

MobilCom already signed an agreement in October with Swedish telecommunications company L.M. Ericsson Telephone Co. (ERICY), but said it hopes to hasten the project by bringing another supplier on board. In addition, two suppliers would give MobilCom greater security in forward planning.

The system is expected to start up in mid-2002, and MobilCom says it wants to be the first to start up in the German market in order to secure a competitive position.
