Buying eToys and keeping it as eToys would be a huge mistake, IMO. Mattel is not a retailer, and they should not be getting into the retail business. Retailing margins should be completely unacceptable to them. And, realistically, is Hasbro going to allow Mattel to sell its products? Is Toys 'R Us going to be happy about Mattel competing with them, and be willing to stock Mattel inventory when they know Mattel can undercut them and stick them with excess inventory anytime they need to meet a sales goal? It doesn't make sense.

OTOH, if eToys is bought as a cheap way of acquiring infrastructure to support the direct sales division, I'm all for it. There are a lot of possibilities for American Girl, in particular.
