TP, President Clinton had to withdraw the names of several nominees for
cabinent positions during his first term. Two had problems that were
similar to Linda Chavez's problem, but at least they admitted it.
They didn't pay social security taxes for the Nanny that they hired to
look after their kids.

But, Mr. Clinton also had to withdraw the name of a black woman
from Harvard. I believe she was suppose to be his Attorney General. I saw
her on tv last night. He had to withdraw her name because of the way she wanted
black votes to be counted. Her first name is Lanier (spelling). Her last name
begins with a G. I'll find out the correct spelling some time today. It is not
quite 6 AM on the west coast. What is sad is that the Clintons and Ms. L had
been good friends for many years so when he had to withdraw her name because
of Republican partisanship, her friendship with the Clintons ended. This is what
I heard from the press reports.

PS: Senator TED KENNEDY speaks strongly about Ashcroft's political record. He
hit on the points that journalists and others have noted.

Senator Kennedy also looks at Ascroft's weird position on gun laws. On the
one hand, Ashcroft says he is hard on crime. On the other hand, he wants to make
it as easy as possible for ex-fellons to get gun permits, including assault weapons,
once they are out of jail.
