I'll spare you what I really think of Clinton. I think regarding blacks, he really dropped the ball. He had the chance to lobby for the repeal of laws that call for stiffer sentences for crack cocaine possession than powder cocaine possession, but he chose not to. Most black leaders see these laws as an arrow aimed directly at them and are trying to get them rolled back. There are a lot of young black men serving heavy sentences for possessing just a few grams of crack. Clinton has the power to pardon in these last days, but I'm not expecting him to do the right thing. You picked the right reading material for your trip. Interesting you mention Kerouac, he carried on the right wing beatnik tradition in grand style. <g>
