I wouldn't go so far as to refer to Thoreau or Kerouac as "right wing." To be sure, one can easily find elements of that in their writings. But one can also find "left wing" ideas in their writings too. It is all a matter of what you focus on and value in their work. A great thinker provides many different elements in their writing, which is often at odds with one another. I'm not a proponent of political correctness.

The sad fact remains that there is still a lot of hatred in the heartland of this country towards liberalism and progressive thinking and politics. The divisions are getting worse. Polarization is increasing.

I think Bush is going to have one big nightmare when he assumes office.
