Wow. An NYSE specialist had time to speak to you - let alone with a short position that was large enough to worry him?

Moreover, he walked you - a public customer - through his thought process as he was working his book?

Wow. Your floor experience(s) are uncharacteristically rich. Good for you; in all the times I've been on exchange floors (NYSE, Chicago, etc) I've repeatedly been told by my guides that the specialists won't (and don't) speak to anyone but their booth staff, registered floor personnel, or exchange officials.
