Salomon Smith's Acuff: Now A Good Time To Buy Stocks

NEW YORK -- Now is the time to buy stocks, said Marshall Acuff, equity strategist at Salomon Smith Barney, during a Tuesday CNBC appearance.

"I like the lay of the market," Acuff said. "It's broadening out."

Acuff said the Federal Reserve will likely cut interest rates by 50 basis points at its end-of-the-month meeting and will probably cut rates by another 50 basis points in March.

In this environment, Acuff recommended companies with "relatively good visibility on growth." Among his picks were Global Crossing Ltd. (GX), American International Group Inc. (AIG), Hughes Electronics Corp. (GMH), Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) and Bank of New York Co. (BK).
