Coherent and TRT-Lucent Technologies Continue
International Agreement
LEESBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1997--Coherent Communications Systems
(NASDAQ:CCSC) and TRT-Lucent Technologies are to continue the long-standing international
agreement, originally made with TRT Philips Systems, under which TRT is licensed to provide a
customized, high performance digital echo canceller based on Coherent's patented RISC
technology. The companies have been working in close partnership for over 4 years, achieving
widespread market success with the CEN 232 canceller.

TRT's CEN 232 digital echo canceller provides advanced echo control for both wireline telephony
and wireless digital cellular systems. It is fully compliant with ITU-T standards, providing a flexible
and fully future-proof platform for consistent, reliable performance with fast and stable
convergence (50mS for combined ERL and ERLE of 35dB) - prerequisites for modern network
applications. The CEN 232 is also optimized to ensure superior subjective voice quality and
fail-safe facsimile transmission. The CEN 232 boards can be housed in two types of shelf -
containing either two or twelve echo cancellers. It can be controlled by TRT's NMS 232
PC-based network management system.
