Samsung Remains World's Largest TFT-LCD Manufacturer for Third Year
January 17, 2001 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. held onto the world's number one position in the global TFT-LCD market for the third year in a row, according to IDC Japan.



LG Philips LCD Co., Ltd. placed second, following the world's largest memory chip maker.

The survey shows that Samsung Electronics accounted for 20.1 percent (6.11 million units) of total production (30 million displays). LG Philips manufactured 4.48 million products (14.7 percent).

Hitachi Ltd. took a 10.2 percent share, followed by Sharp Corp. and NEC Corp. Samsung Electronics said its production line of fourth-generation LCDs (730mm x 920mm) started operating in late 2000.
