Is Sun about to cannabalize their highend server sales with these lowend servers?

Yes they are.

The server market is moving toward the consumer space. You're starting to see tiny little companies with their own server appliances. I've got an old Macintosh in my house that runs Apache, sendmail, a DNS server, and so on. Yes, Sun will lose some portion of its high-end market to its new thin servers, in the same way that Microsoft will lose some portion of its desktop market to the XBox. The big difference is that Sun's thin server will be profitable. Sun won't have to make up for subsidized hardware sales by selling game titles.
