I hope you were joking about faster computers not improving productivity. Are you talking to me on a 386 with a 2400 bps modem?

You see I actually manufacture things in my business and I do a lot of my work on the computer. Everything I do is for publication, to be printed on paper. I've been in business long enough to know exactly how long it takes and how many people it takes to get a photographic image from shot film to offset printed piece the old way, before computers. I can do in less than an hour what used to take several professionals several weeks to do. I can do four times as much work with my faster computers than I could do just last year. When image editing software first came out I tried using on a 486.....Ha! Try 2 minute screen redraws for productivity. Now I have four computers networked to six printers, all working at once. You scan and edit over here, send to the printer and put in position over on this other computer. Tell me which is more productive, one person doing three things at once on three computers costing less than 5k total or another worker costing me 20k a year?

You like biotech, right. Check out some of the drug discovery systems. Fully automated assay testing computer systems do in a day what would take a technician YEARS to do in a lab....YEARS!

Don't believe the BS that faster computers don't increase productivity. If someone is saying that they've never actually been in an environment where they actually make STUFF with them.

Needless to say, they can also be a black hole for time and attention and you don't ever want to call me on a bad computer day.
