Scitex and Presstek Agree to Exchange Technology and Expand the Application of PEARL Plates

DUSSELDORF, Germany, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Scitex Corporation Ltd. (Nasdaq: SCIXF) and Presstek, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRST) today announced an agreement between the companies covering the cross-license of certain technologies; the supply of Presstek's PEARL plates for use with the Scitex -- KBA -- Planeta 74 Karat(TM) digital offset press, and the Integration of the Brisque digital front end to the Presstek PEARLsetter(TM), a line of off-press plate imaging systems.

Under this agreement, Presstek and Scitex will cooperate to ensure the compatibility and performance of Presstek's PEARLdry plates on the 74 Karat press which was announced by Scitex and KBA-Planeta on June 3, 1997. Presstek will supply plates for use on the 74 Karat press, both to Scitex and directly to press customers. Presstek will license its on-press imaging patents to Scitex, and Scitex will license its Turbo Screening technology to Presstek for implementation in the Presstek PEARLsetter and other off-press imaging products. In addition, the companies will cooperate in integrating the Scitex Brisque digital front end with the PEARLsetter line.

Presstek, Inc., founded in 1987, has developed PEARL, a patented, proprietary non-photographic, toxic-free, digital imaging and printing plate technology for the printing and graphic arts industries on a worldwide basis. PEARL's thermal laser diode system is capable of imaging various types of Presstek printing plates either off-press or on-press to produce high quality, full-color lithographic printed materials. Presstek is also engaged in the development of additional products and applications that incorporate its proprietary PEARL technologies and consumables, including both computer-to- plate and other direct-to-press applications.
