Anyone see the Discovery Channel last night? Flight's subject was modern helicopters, with some great details on the HUD systems for the Comanche - Hughes was mentioned as the manufacturer of the targeting system.
It was quite an impressive system, integrating weapons systems, radar, infra red and taking feedback from the pilot's eye and head motion.
It looked as if it was limited to stick fonts, single color, relatively low resolution, no graphics. Also, at least the infra-red mounting was fixed looking forward, which is probably a significant limitation for helicopter crews.
The program also had some footage of a new "stealth" Sikorsky that's in the research stage but unfortunately did not cover its weapons, targeting and avionics systems.
Anyone know who owns Sikorsky now? Is it Boeing?
Also, any thoughts on the relevance of the Saab/Ericsson announcement? |
