China is facing Islamic militant and fundamentalist threats at its border near Xinjiang

Is this an spontaneous and foreign induced threat, or is it a result of China's expansionist policies into non-Han regions?

You reap what you sow...

And the US did face a similar situation. It was known as the Indian wars and manifest destiny. But that was a different time ruled by different social conventions.

China has NEVER had a strong navy

Of course not.. and that is what makes their threats against Taiwan ring hollow and furthers the loss of face by Chinese leaders who find their bluffs being called. But the fact remains that are still trying to intimidate Taiwan.

But if the US was not a presence in the region, they would not need a strong navy, now would they? Mass airborne troop attacks would create the same result once Taiwan's air force was eliminated as a threat.

Would N. and S. Korea find themselve compelled to become Chinese client states? Would not Japan follow eventually to fall under the control of China?

I wish only the best for the Chinese people.. But I am fully cognizant that only they should be the determiners of what is best for them and not the octegenarian leadership trying to preserve the past, but change enough to prevent an outright civil rebellion against their rule.

Yes, China would be sadly defeated in any naval contest were they to invade Taiwan. But the odds would increase substantially in their favor were the US not involved.

And just like the Argentinan junta attempted with their invasion of the Falklands/Malvinas, I can see Bejing attempting an invasion of Taiwan in order to centralize nationalistic and patriotic fervor, just restoring their false legitimacy as leaders.

Regards,

Ron
