In past downturns, Intel's capex has been atypical for the industry, in that it has held up a lot better than other chip makers. I do not place a lot of faith in the industry's ability to further increase bookings from already record levels in the face of weakening growth in the overall economy. This chart suggests that we are still at the early stages of the downturn:

For these reasons I think that the rally that has been under way since December will fail. Hard to say when, though.
