I wouldn't go so far as to refer to Thoreau or Kerouac as "right wing."

Do you recall when Kerouac was a guest on Firing Line once? He told Buckley that "Hoodlums and communists have taken over the hippie movement."

Then there was the time Ginsberg desecrated a flag. Kerouac told him to back off, then he proceeded to carefully fold it up in the customary manner and put it away.
