I've never been much into symbolism, though I know others are. I consider flag burning more of an environmental pollution issue than a political one. I know that people do get all wrapped up in this flag or that, but it is beyond me. I simply don't get the mechanism.

This reaction to flags is never consistent. It seems that people who defend the US flag don't understand why other people might not approve of a confederate flag being hung. Flags are flags, right? If you feel strongly about your flag, it seems obvious to me that other people are going to feel strongly about other flags.

I understand respecting vets, and honoring the dead (those are at least PEOPLE), but this irrational love for the flag is just something I don't get, especially when if the flag is supposed to represent everything the US has done, and some of those things are pretty despicable.
