I really do not wish to get off topic on this thread

Well, I'm not sure this is necessarily off topic considering the severe impact high energy prices and rolling blackouts are having on technology companies in California.

As for the electrical industry inflicting its will on the people, maybe the people need to think about how bad it would be if they were really charged the same amount as it costs to produce it.

The Federal and State environmental agencies have pushed plants into using natural gas, while not providing an additional supply of that gas on a nationwide basis. Increase demand, limit supply and you have a recipe for economic disaster. And you can't expect power suppliers in adjacent states to subsidize California's lack of prior economic planning. If they have no guarantee of being paid, why should they cough up the necessary money to purchase natural gas to produce that additional electricity above what their own customers require?

A corrollary to California is what could happen to the entire US should OPEC decide to shut off the taps again. Then we can ask ourselves why they won't give us oil and subsidize our economy.

Allow me to make a personal prediction here based on a SWAG. I believe we will see a reduction of technology companies choosing to locate in California over the next several years. That may have a resultant impact on real estate prices. Companies will pull up stakes and migrate to regions or countries were they can find stable energy prices.

Regards,

Ron
