Telecommunications Revolution

James,

Nice post. All societies have a communications
infrastructure of one sort or another, and none
is entirely fair. If the choice is between the
old mass-media model and the new internet model,
though, I'll take the latter any time, on the
theory that it's better to be confused by information
overload than it is to be lulled into a false
sense of security by ignorance or, worse, mis-
information.

In any event, no technology is a panacea. People
only live happily ever after in fairy tales. If
you're interested in the "politics of technology,"
which is the term folks in my profession use for
the issues you raise, I recommend Langdon Winner's
_The Whale and the Reactor_ as a good starting point.

Cheers, Tom
